Vintage Air Brazes Adopts CuproBraze Technology for Climate Control Products

One-Shot Copper-Brass Brazing Yields Compact Durable Cores for Cars and Construction Equipment

NEW YORK – According to the International Copper Association, Vintage Air in San Antonio, Texas, was one of the first companies to market products made with CuproBraze technology. After several years of purchasing CuproBraze heater cores from another source, Vintage Air recently procured and installed its own CuproBraze production line and now it brazes its own copper-brass heater cores.

The Vintage Air product that uses CuproBraze technology is a combination heater-cooler package that is popular among auto enthusiasts and low-production automobile OEM as well as construction equipment OEMs.

CuproBraze technology allows copper fins and brass tubes to be brazed together rather than soldered, resulting in more compact and durable climate control systems. According to Vintage Air president Jack Chisenhall, the popularity of the CuproBraze heater cores is due to the compact designs it offers for passenger cars and the durability it offers for heavy-duty equipment.

“The more familiar we become with brazed copper-brass, the more we like it,” Vintage Air President Jack Chisenhall said. “The high thermal conductivity of copper allows for a compactness of design that simply is not possible using other materials systems.”

The production process behind this high quality product is simple yet effective. The process is a “one-shot” brazing process, meaning that fins, tubes and headers are coated with brazing paste and fully assembled before one pass through the CuproBraze brazing furnace.

Vintage Air has established an excellent reputation in the enthusiast aftermarket over the past 32 years. Now the company is noticing how CuproBraze has piqued the interest of OEMs and it is prepared to grow in order to supply their needs. “We do best with technology-oriented customers who understand the performance advantages of brazed copper-brass,” said Chisenhall. “ Sometimes these are in the aftermarket and sometimes they are OEM customers. In either case, we are happy to meet their needs.”
